Suspended Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders will be suspended without pay for five games for violating the NBA’s drug policy. The suspension will begin next season when he returns from an eye injury that ended his 2013-14 season. Sanders also missed nearly two months earlier this season after tearing a ligament in his right thumb during a fight at a Milwaukee nightclub.

• Longtime Georgia swimming coach Jack Bauerle has been suspended indefinitely following NCAA findings of two major rules violations resulting from his involvement in star Chase Kalisz’s academic eligibility. Bauerle has been accused of severe breach of contract and providing extra benefits to Kalisz.

Injured Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier will be sidelined three weeks because of a knee sprain. Bernier left in the third period of Toronto’s 4-3 overtime win over Boston on Thursday night after falling awkwardly on his left leg.

Leaving UNLV forward Roscoe Smith, the Mountain West Conference’s leading rebounder last season, will forgo his senior season to enter the NBA draft. Smith averaged 10.9 rebounds and 11.1 points per game during the 2013-14 season.

Charged Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was charged with assault after being accused of choking his girlfriend during an argument. A criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court said his girlfriend told police they got into the argument early Thursday at his suburban Minneapolis home. The woman told police he kicked down a locked bedroom door, grabbed her around the neck and slammed her against the wall, choking her for 15 to 20 seconds during which she could not breathe.

Transferring North Carolina State sophomore point guard Tyler Lewis says he’s transferring to Butler. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Lewis said he looked at Purdue, Xavier, Charlotte, Gonzaga and UAB before deciding Butler was the best fit.
