Roberts, Roche break records

Washington State’s Ruby Roberts and Gonzaga’s Nick Roche broke school records Friday at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.

Roberts finished 10th in the 5,000 meters in 16 minutes, 9.02 seconds, shattering Anna Blue’s previous record time of 16:14.55, which she set at the Stanford Invitational in 2003.

Roche finished eighth out of 17 runners in his 3,000-meter heat in a Gonzaga school-record time of 8:59.29 – 3 seconds faster than the mark he set last year at the same meet.

Baseball

Ben Wylly’s solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning helped San Diego (20-9, 7-3) to a 6-5 comeback victory over Gonzaga (10-19, 6-4) in a West Coast Conference game in San Diego.

Payden Lamb had three hits and scored twice to lead the Bulldogs.

• Mitchell Tolman scored three times and drove in two runs and Oregon (21-8, 7-3) snapped Washington’s 10-game win streak with a 10-3 Pac-12 Conference win over the Huskies (20-6-1, 8-2) in Seattle.

Softball

Lindsie Scholwinski dominated on the mound and CC Spokane (11-9, 8-2) swept Walla Walla (7-10, 5-4) in an NWAACC doubleheader at Spokane Falls CC.

The Sasquatch won the opener 4-0. Scholwinski struck out 15 batters and allowed just three hits.

CCS won the nightcap 8-0 in five innings. Scholwinski gave up two hits and struck out 12. Spokane’s Shawnee Zink hit a home run in each game.

Soccer

Former Seattle Sounders player Kevin Forrest will play for the Spokane Shadow in their debut season in the Evergreen Premier League. Forrest attended the University of Washington and was the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2006.

The Spokane Shadow open the season May 3 at Spokane Falls CC.
