Man stabbed in home after interrupting burglar

From staff reports
A man was stabbed in his home Monday morning after interrupting what appeared to be a burglary in progress. The 52-year-old man was taken to a Spokane hospital with non-life threatening injuries but was able to give police a description of the man he found in his kitchen just before 10 a.m. The homeowner was in his basement at 1518 W. Jackson Street when he heard a noise upstairs that he thought was his sister. He went upstairs and found a man looking through his refrigerator, said Capt. Keith Cummings of the Spokane Police Department. The two men got into a fight. The burglar grabbed a large kitchen knife, stabbed the homeowner in the stomach and fled. The homeowner said the man was white, about 6-feet tall, had a sandy-blond goatee, Atlanta Braves baseball cap and blue pants. Police are investigating.
