Obituary: Dimico, Pierrie
Age 90
He was number 11 in a family of 12 children.
They were all raised on the family farm of 160 acres homesteaded by their dad, Sebastiano Dimico in 1902, and who arrived in America from Italy in 1892.
His mother, Marianna, married Sebastiano in January, 1903, immediately after arriving in Harrison, Idaho from Italy.
Together they drove up the hill in the horse drawn wagon to the log cabin at the homestead.
Dad always fondly remembered his years on the farm…the hard work, the fun times and all the family memories.
In 1943, Dad joined D Battery, 460 Parachute Field Artillery Battalion (PFAB), 17th Airborne Division at Camp McCall, North Carolina.
He injured his left knee in jump training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was then sent to Camp Forrest, Tennessee to recuperate.
He went to Louisiana as a heavy equipment operator and when the school closed, they sent him to Panama to guard the Canal.
He re-upped into the regular Army and was sent to Germany in the Army of Occupation.
He was discharged in February, 1948.
Pierrie met and married Edith in Spokane in 1950.
Their children are Linda, Louise, John, Casey and Donna.
Later, he married Rose, bringing four children to the family, Joe, Jeff, John and Jean.
They had 43 years together that brought joy to their ever growing family including 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Dad was an avid gardener and had vegetable gardens, beautiful flower gardens, rock work and always had remodeling projects.
In his retirement, he joined Rose in volunteering at the Spokane Valley Partners in the food and clothing banks.
He did home improvements for seniors, which put his jack-of-all-trades skills to good use.
He was an amazing example of what a loving father and husband should and could be.
We will miss his deep voice telling stories as he reminisced and laughed about his adventures growing up.
Our father was influential in teaching us about life, love and family values.
We will hold him in our hearts forever.
Private family memorial service will be held.
