Koresh Dance Company

Renowned for their powerful stage presence and high-energy style, this Philadelphia group of 10 dancers has been hailed a vital force to both national and international stages. They return to North Idaho for the second straight year, sponsored by the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center.

Spokane Symphony

In “Celebrating Strauss – The Beginning and The End,” the Spokane Symphony honors one of the great German composers, Richard Strauss, with works from the beginning and end of his career, as well as “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” a tone poem composed early in his career and used by Stanley Kubrick in “2001: A Space Odyssey.” His “Four Last Songs,” a farewell to a golden era, will be sung by acclaimed soprano Amber Wagner. Eckart Preu conducts.

Air Supply

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock became instant friends with their common love for The Beatles and, of course, singing. Northwest Guitar Festival 2014

Annual event, now in its 23rd year, runs through Sunday in various locations.

When: Friday at Eastern Washington University, Music Building Auditorium: noon, James Reid, founder of the Northwest Guitar Festival and the director of the guitar program at the University of Idaho; 2 p.m., 2014 Competition Semi-Final, showcasing the 19 up and coming guitarists representing six states; 7:30 p.m., Michael Partington, who has released six CDs and directs the guitar program at the University of Washington. Saturday: at Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive: 7:30 p.m., Mak Grgic, 26-year-old virtuoso who recently took first prize at the guitar competition Luigi Mozzani in Italy. Sunday: at Holy Names Music Center, McNally Hall, 3910 W. Custer Drive: 1 p.m., David Feingold, guitar professor at Western Washington University; 4 p.m., Giacomo Fiore, who has performed and premiered new compositions around the world.
