Traffic blocked on Monroe Street at Fairview in Spokane

A pickup truck smashed into and knocked down a power pole at Monroe Street and Fairview Avenue this morning, blocking traffic in both directions.

Emergency personnel had to extricate one of the two people in the pickup truck. Another was able to get out. The extent of any injuries is unclear. Both people were taken to a Spokane hospital.

Crews from Avista Utilities also are on site.

Emergency personnel said at 9 a.m. that Monroe Street would reopen soon.
