Obituary: Hoetzel, Patricia (Gaffney Churchill)
After the death of her father, Willis Churchill, she moved to Orofino, Idaho, where her mother married Frank Gaffney who adopted her at age three.
At age 16 she entered University of Idaho, joined Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Sigma Alpha Iota musical honorary, was violin first chair and sang in Vandaleers choral group.
She graduated in business, taught, then worked for Manpower Commission WWII.
In Spokane Patricia was active in the League of Women Voters, Concerned Women of America, was the first chairman of Little Sisters (associated with Big Brothers), and was on the board of City Gate, helping the homeless without government funding.
She participated in Lay Citizens for Education, was on the state advisory committee fior DSHS, and attended Bible Study Fellowship.
Paul and Pat Hoetzel were married 40 years until his death in 1985.
Beginning in 2000 she lived with her daughter, Paula Smith, in Auburn, WA., until her death January 15, 2014, just shy of 94.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula; granddaughter, Courteney (Jed) Pickel; two great-granddaughters, Seattle; grandson, Staff Sgt.
Stuart (Gina) Smith, Okinawa; step-son, Brigadier General, Pete (Carol) Hayes, La Conner, WA.
