Obituary: Lasswell, James W.

LASSWELL, James W. “Jim” (Age 80) Jim Lasswell passed away peacefully on April 8, 2014.

Jim was born October 25, 1933 in Lewistown, Missouri to Roscoe and Alberta Lasswell, and was the oldest of three children.

Jim joined the United States Air Force in 1953 after two years in the Naval Reserve, and spent the next 22 years serving his country, 14 years of those at Fairchild Air Force Base.

He also was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska; Richards - Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, Missouri; Shimiya, Alaska, and Guam during his time in the military.

Jim retired in June of 1974 as a Senior Master Sergeant.

After retiring, he moved his family back to Spokane and went to work for Metropolitan Insurance and later Prudential Insurance, and retired for good in 1988.

Jim enjoyed boating, camping, working in the yard, and stock car racing and served many years as the Crew Chief on his son’s race cars.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; one son, Randy (Lisa), one daughter Judi, and a grandson Jimmy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Alberta, his son Scotty, his sister Sue, and brother Porter.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 2:15 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, Spokane, WA.

A Graveside Service with military honors will follow at 3:30 pm at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, The Spokane Human Society, or the animal rescue organization of your choice.
