LC stages whimsical ‘Suessical’

“From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere” when Lewis and Clark High School Tiger Drama performs “Seussical the Musical.”

Performances will be April 24-26 at 7 p.m. in LC’s auditorium.

“Seussical” follows the adventures of Horton, who hears voices coming from a speck of dust, the planet where the Whos live. It also includes characters and storylines from more than 20 Dr. Seuss stories.

The “Seussical” cast is Siobhan Flanagan as Jojo McDodd; Will Petro as Cat in the Hat; Anissa Martinez as Thing 1; Emma Lyons as Thing 2; Dominick Betts as Horton the Elephant; Anna Maguire as Gertrude McFuzz; Maddy Rush as Mayzie the lazy bird; Kezia Rhodes as the Sour Kangaroo; Ray Gillis as the Mayor of Whoville; Zoe Broadus as Mrs. Mayor of Whoville; Braeden Tyler-Babkirk as Yertle the Turtle and the Grinch; and Liam Schaaf as Vlad Vladikoff the vulture.

The Bird Girls are Genevieve Alexander, Brie Cole, Melina Palomba and Sarah Wier. The Wickershams are Katie Ahern, Kiley Barz, Olivia Cook, Veronika Coon and Keith Hahto. And the Jungle Citizens, Whos, and Fish are played by Sadie Bagby, Jillian Burgess, CaraLee Howe, Julian Lee, Madison Queen, Katlynn Souers, Ava Walter and Brigit Wendt.

For the first time, the show will also feature Who for a Day!, where 36 elementary school students from schools in Spokane and Spokane Valley will perform as some of the residents of Whoville in the April 25 performance. The feature is a fundraiser for LC’s trip to the National Thespian Festival in June. The elementary students paid a fee to participate, which included a T-shirt and two tickets to the show.

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Rogers senior fundraiser Saturday

Rogers High School seniors continue to raise funds for their senior all-nighter with a clothing drive in the school parking lot, 1622 E. Wellesley Ave., on Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Students are collecting used clothing, blankets, sheets, dish towels, shoes and stuffed animals. Clothing and other gently used items will be repurposed and sent to disaster areas. Unusable donations will be recycled into textile fibers.

Students to aid in urban forestation

Spokane Public Schools students are planting ponderosa pines to help revitalize local urban forests.

Students were scheduled to plant trees at Hamblen Elementary on Wednesday. Trees also will be planted at Balboa Elementary School on Friday. Rogers students will plant trees on Saturday at Joe Albi Stadium, and Lewis and Clark students will plant at Joe Albi on Tuesday.
