A broken water main has closed the upper portion of the South Freya Street hill today.
Spokane city officials reported that the section of Freya from 17th to 29th avenues will be closed to traffic through this evening as workers fix the problem.
Traffic is being detoured to Ray Street.
The failure at 25th Avenue was reported early this morning and crews responded about 8 a.m. They were using a locater device to pinpoint the exact location for repair.
Crews said that the stream of water erupting from the ground was relatively small and had not caused any large washout, said Julie Happy, city spokeswoman.
