In brief: Two arrested in drive-thru robberies
Police detained a man and a woman Thursday night following the third drive-thru robbery in three days. But they’re not sure if they caught the man who robbed the Shadle-area McDonald’s Thursday afternoon.
“I believe there is one more person of interest we are looking for,” Spokane police Lt. Craig Meidl said.
A McDonald’s customer called police around 6 p.m. to report the robbery. The robber was described as a white man wearing a black ski mask, dark hoodie and blue jeans. The robbery is similar to the Wednesday drive-thru robbery at the Wendy’s near Northpointe and the Tuesday robbery at McDonald’s on Monroe near Francis. Investigators will try to determine if they are connected, Meidl said.
Zoo eagle owl flies off during training
TACOMA – A Tacoma zoo says a Eurasian eagle owl named Forrest that is trained to fly during performances of its outdoor theater got spooked and flew off into a nearby park.
Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is asking for calls from anyone who sees Forrest, who is believed to be in Point Defiance Park.
Members of the zoo’s Wild Wonders Outdoor Theater staff were rehearsing a new show when Forrest flew off Wednesday afternoon. They think he was startled by changes made to the stage. He’s trained to fly during performances and then return.
Forrest is about 2 feet tall, with a 5-foot wingspan. He’s wearing red “jesses,” which look like red cords dangling from his legs.
Staff biologist Sara Mattison says he’s comfortable around people and may even hoot if he sees someone.
No charges in fake child abduction
SEQUIM, Wash. – A prosecutor in Sequim says no charges will be filed against twin brothers who say they’re responsible for staging a fake child abduction in a park that terrified onlookers who thought it was real.
City Attorney Craig Ritchie told the Peninsula Daily News that “Scaring the hell out of people is not, as far as I can determine, a crime.”
Brothers Jason and Jeremy Holden said they were the two masked men who grabbed a young boy from a park bench Saturday and sped off in a van. Jason Holden said they staged the incident to create a video on child abduction awareness.
The prosecutor said city codes don’t require permits for filming, and a dangerous conduct charge would be tough to pursue since nobody was hurt.
