Mixed messages for drivers

While driving to Seattle last week, I tuned my radio to 1610-AM to get a pass report. At the end of the report, it stated that commercial drivers could now get up-to-the-minute pass conditions by going to wsdot.com on their iPhone.

This weekend on a local TV station newscast, it was reported that three new Washington Department of Transportation cameras were put into operation on Highway 195 so drivers could get up-to-the-minute road reports on that section of highway.

It is on the news now that for the next week the Washington State Patrol is cracking down on hand-held devices being used while driving. Seems WSDOT is promoting the use of hand-held devices, while the WSP is saying it is a no-no.

What am I missing here?
