In brief: Goat certificate classes scheduled

SPOKANE – City residents who want to keep goats in their yards in accordance with the recently passed urban livestock ordinance must obtain goat management certification through a class provided by Washington State University’s Spokane County Extension.

The first classes are offered May 8 and May 22, both days from 6:30-9 p.m. Classes cover basic goat health care and feeding, odor control, milking and shelter and fencing instructions.

Only one class is needed to obtain certification.

Plant sale Saturday at Manito

SOUTH HILL – The Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane will hold its annual plant sale this weekend at Manito Park.

The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the production area east of Gaiser Conservatory.

Items for sale include organic vegetables and herbs, annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, house plants, starts from cuttings taken off plants in the conservatory and container plants.

Proceeds will go toward local projects and nonprofit organizations.

Healthy Kids Day set for Saturday

SPOKANE VALLEY – YMCA of the Inland Northwest will host Healthy Kids Day at the Spokane Valley YMCA, 2421 N. Discovery Place, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The day will feature fun, active play and educational activities, including Group Health’s Blood and Guts exhibit, face painting, a fire truck and ladder from Spokane Valley Fire Dept., Zumba for kids, open skate in the skate park, an indoor climbing wall, youth disc golf and more.

Police museum marks anniversary

DOWNTOWN – The Spokane Law Enforcement Museum, 1201 W. First Ave., is celebrating its fourth anniversary Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bicycle and patrol officers will visit from 1-3 p.m. Admission is $5; $4 for seniors and military; $3 for students and $2 for children 12 and younger.

Hillyard, Bemiss unite for cleanup

HILLYARD AND BEMISS – The Hillyard and Bemiss neighborhood councils are joining forces with Organizations of North East Spokane for a cleanup day Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The staging is in the parking lot of Shaw Middle School, 4106 N. Cook St.

Volunteers are needed to help elderly and disabled residents clean up and transport items to the parking lot.

Dump passes worth $25 are available at COPS Northeast, 5208 N. Market St. Passes are valid through May 11.

FINCH ARBORETUM – There’s a compost fair at the Finch Arboretum, 3404 Woodland Blvd., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
