In brief: South Korea ferry search on hold due to bad weather

SEOUL, South Korea – South Korean officials searching for 115 people still missing from the sunken ferry said today that divers have reached two large rooms where many of the lost may lie dead, but the search had to be suspended because of bad weather.

Divers have recovered 187 bodies so far from the April 16 disaster.

Woman to be lashed, jailed after driving

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – A woman in Saudi Arabia was sentenced this week to 150 lashes and eight months in jail for driving and striking police officers who arrested her, news websites in the kingdom reported.

Women in the conservative country are prohibited from driving.

It appeared that the particularly harsh sentence was handed down because of the charges of resisting arrest and attacking police officers, according to various reports.

Police find cocaine in banana shipment

BERLIN – German police say they have seized 265 pounds of cocaine hidden among crates of bananas in a container shipped from Ecuador – their second big find of cocaine from South America this year.

The Federal Criminal Police Office said Friday the drugs were stuffed into travel bags hidden among the boxes of fruit. They were found April 14 when officials checked over 20 containers that arrived in the North Sea port of Bremerhaven.
