Obituary: Stewart, Vivian Gage
Age 99
She was born in Strathmore, Alberta, Canada on October 30th, 1914.
The family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1920, then to Spokane in 1927.
Her parents built and operated Gage’s Drive Inn, the first drive-in in Spokane at Monroe and N.W.
Blvd.
As a teenager, Vivian was a roller skating car-hop.
She married Irwin Copley Stewart in 1936.
They both graduated from North Central High School.
Together in 1945 they opened Stewart’s Home Town Hardware adjacent to Gage’s.
Together they worked side by side until it was sold in 1982.
Vivian was active in Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.
She is preceded in death by her husband Irwin in 1984, and her brother James Edward Gage in 1979.
As Vivian wrote, she was blessed with one daughter, Sally Alex (George); three grand- daughters, Sydney Schultz, Stephanie Little Brave, and Thea Alex; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Marco Plastino, Nicole and Peter Van Voorhis, Talulah Schultz, Karlee and Jacob Williams, and one adopted, Sunkmanitu Little Brave.
All of them gave her great pleasure as she felt they kept her forever young and active.
They all adored her as she was so very patient, kind, and interested in each of them.
Her Celebration of Life will be 1 pm, Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.
“Grammy” left her legacy of sharing unconditional love from her pure heart.
