Carter’s 3 at buzzer lifts Mavericks

NBA: Vince Carter hit a double-pump 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the host Dallas Mavericks a 109-108 victory in Game 3 and a first-round series lead over the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

Carter took an inbound pass from Jose Calderon with 1.7 seconds left in the left corner. After a quick pump fake in front of Manu Ginobili, Carter released the ball just before the buzzer. The winning shot was held up on review.

Ginobili had given the Spurs a 108-106 lead on a layup before Dallas called timeout to set up the play for Carter.

• Pacers tie series with Hawks: Paul George and David West hit key 3-pointers down the stretch, and the top-seeded Indiana Pacers held off the host Atlanta Hawks 91-88 to even the opening-round series at two wins apiece.

In a game they had to have, the Pacers finally showed some grit. George put the Pacers ahead 86-85 with a jumper beyond the arc, and West hit another trey with 1:33 remaining.

• Heat coast to 3-0 series lead : LeBron James had 30 points and 10 rebounds, and the Miami Heat defeated the Charlotte Bobcats 98-85 in Charlotte, N.C., to take a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference first-round series.

Dwyane Wade added 17 points for the Heat, who can close out the best-of-seven Monday night.

• OKC escapes in OT, ties series: Reserve Reggie Jackson scored a personal playoff-best 32 points, and the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Memphis Grizzlies 92-89 in overtime, tying their first-round Western Conference series at two apiece.

The Thunder blew a 14-point lead with Memphis, and the Grizzlies blew a third straight fourth-quarter lead themselves. Jackson tied up Memphis with five straight points in the final minute of regulation.

• Wizards’ Nene suspended one game: Washington Wizards forward Nene has been suspended by the NBA for Game 4 of the team’s first-round series against the Chicago Bulls for head-butting and grabbing Jimmy Butler around the neck with both hands and attempting to throw him down in Friday’s game.

Boston beats Detroit 4-2, wins series

NHL: Tuukka Rask made 31 saves to help the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Bruins beat the Red Wings 4-2 in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series and eliminate visiting Detroit from the postseason.

The Bruins, who finished the regular season with the best record in the NHL, advanced to the conference semifinals against the Montreal Canadiens.

• Pittsburgh tops Columbus: Jussi Jokinen scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and the hometown Pittsburgh Penguins topped the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1 to take a 3-2 lead in their Eastern Conference playoff series.

• Kings survive versus Sharks: Jonathan Quick made 30 saves to shut out San Jose for the fourth time in his career in the postseason and the Los Angeles Kings staved off elimination for a second straight game by beating the Sharks 3-0 in Game 5 of their first-round series in San Jose, Calif.

• Colorado grabs another OT win: Nathan MacKinnon scored 3:27 into overtime after P.A. Parenteau tied the game late in regulation, helping the Colorado Avalanche rally for a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in Denver and a 3-2 lead in the first-round series.

• NHL fines Stars’ forward Garbutt: Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt was fined $1,474 – the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement – by the NHL for spearing Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry in the groin Friday night.

The Ducks lead the first-round playoff series 3-2.

• Capitals make front-office changes: The Washington Capitals have fired coach Adam Oates and will not renew the contract of general manager George McPhee after failing to make the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Sharapova cruises into Porsche final

Tennis: Two-time defending champion Maria Sharapova cruised past Sara Errani 6-1, 6-2 to reach her third straight Porsche Grand Prix final in Stuttgart, Germany.

Sharapova dominated the 59-minute semifinal and will play Ana Ivanovic in the final.

• Unseeded Oprandi, Torro-Flor face off: Romina Oprandi of Switzerland beat top-seeded Daniela Hantuchova 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 to set up a Grand Prix SAR final against Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor of Spain in Marrakesh, Morroco.

Torro-Flor defeated fifth-seeded compatriot Garbine Muguruza 6-0, 6-3.

• Colombia’s Giraldo reaches Barcelona final: Santiago Giraldo of Colombia beat Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 6-3 to reach the Barcelona (Spain) Open final, as his Spanish rival suffered a letdown after ousting top-ranked Rafael Nadal.

Giraldo will face fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan after he beat Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-2, 6-4 in the other semifinal on the red outdoor clay.

• Dimitrov advances to final in Bucharest: Top-seeded Grigor Dimitrov advanced to the final of the Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucarest, Romania, when Gael Monfils had to retire with an ankle injury in the first set.

Dimitrov will play defending champion Lukas Rosol in today’s final, after the Czech player rallied to beat Robin Haase of the Netherlands 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

No bogeys for Noh at TPC Lousiana

Golf: Seung-Yul Noh became the first player to complete 54 holes at the TPC Louisiana without a bogey and strung together three birdies late in his round to surge two strokes ahead of Keegan Bradley atop the Zurich Classic leaderboard.

Noh shot a 7-under 65 to reach 18-under 198 at the tournament held in Avondale, La.

• Lewis leads Ko by one stroke: Stacy Lewis matched 17-year-old playing partner Lydia Ko with birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and added another on the 17th to take a one-stroke lead in the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in Daly City, Calif.

Horford transferring to play for Florida

Miscellany: Former Michigan forward Jon Horford is transferring to Florida for his final year of college basketball eligibility.

The 6-foot-10 Horford averaged 3.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 13.8 minutes a game last season, helping the Wolverines win the Big Ten despite losing big man Mitch McGary to a back injury.

• Cowboys re-sign DE Spencer: The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed defensive end Anthony Spencer to a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million after he missed all but one game last season with a knee injury.
