Body found near Spokane Valley apartment complex

A man was found dead near a Spokane Valley apartment complex late Thursday, and detectives are investigating the circumstances around the death.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the dead man as 47-year-old James B. Artis late Friday. An official cause of death had not been determined pending toxicology tests, the office said.

Investigators found “no obvious signs of trauma” on Artis’s body, according to a news release.

Deputy Mark Gregory said Artis’s body was found by some people walking the trails to the east of the Parkside at Mirabeau Apartments Thursday night. The area is wooded with walking paths winding through the trees.

Major crimes detectives are called in to investigate all unattended deaths, Gregory said.

This story is developing and more information will be added as it is available.
