In Brief: Three injured in T-bone crash at Trent Avenue, Napa Street

From Staff Reports

Three people were seriously injured late Thursday in a T-bone crash at Trent Avenue and Napa Street in Spokane.

Spokane Police Sgt. John Griffin said witnesses reported that a man driving east on Trent in a 2012 Toyota Forerunner about 9:15 p.m. ran a red light, smashing into a northbound 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo, pushing it into a concrete wall on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The female driver and two adult male passengers in the Monte Carlo suffered serious injuries and remained at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center on Friday, said police spokeswoman Monique Cotton. A child properly secured in a child seat was uninjured, police said.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, Griffin said. The SUV driver is not suspected of being impaired by alcohol or drugs, Cotton said.

The visual field is hampered at the intersection by a railroad bridge, though there is an extra stoplight positioned lower to assist eastbound drivers.

‘No obvious signs of trauma’ on dead body in Valley, police say

A man was found dead near a Spokane Valley apartment complex late Thursday, and detectives are investigating the circumstances around the death.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the dead man as James B. Artis, 47, late Friday. An official cause of death had not been determined pending toxicology tests, the office said.

Investigators found “no obvious signs of trauma” on Artis’s body, according to a news release.

Deputy Mark Gregory said Artis’s body was found by some people walking the trails to the east of the Parkside at Mirabeau Apartments, 2820 N. Cherry St., Thursday night. The area is wooded with walking paths winding through the trees.

Major crimes detectives are called in to investigate all unattended deaths, Gregory said.
