Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer, Ben Zobrist got four hits and Tampa Bay roughed up C.J. Wilson and Los Angeles in St. Petersburg, Florida. Longoria put the Rays up 2-0 with his 13th homer of the season, connecting in the first off Wilson. Longoria became the first Tampa Bay player to reach 600 career RBIs.

Trevor Plouffe got four hits and Minnesota stopped Jose Abreu, rallying past host Chicago. Abreu’s hitting streak ended at 21 games, longest in the A.L. this season. Jeff Mathis, who was the center of Thursday’s controversy at the plate, doubled to left to lead off the 10th off Sam LeCure, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Reed Johnson, and scored on the base hit to center by Yelich. The Marlins’ Mike Dunn struck out two batters in the top of the 10th after Chris Heisey delivered a pinch-hit triple.
