Itron, Endeavor settle lawsuit over patent
Itron Inc. has signed a license and settlement agreement with a New York company over a claim of patent infringement.
The settlement is with Endeavor MeshTech Inc., a subsidiary of Endeavor IP Inc, based in New York City. Endeavor IP is an intellectual property services company that acquires and licenses tech services and products protected by patents, according to its website.
Terms of the agreement were not released. An Itron spokeswoman said Itron officials are not permitted to comment on litigation.
In 2013 Endeavor MeshTech filed a federal lawsuit asserting that components used in Itron’s OpenWay smart grid system infringe on a wireless network patent owned by Endeavor.
Itron’s OpenWay is sold to electric utilities and incorporates network components that connect customer meters with other devices that collect and transmit the data to utility managers.
21st Century Fox drops bid for Time Warner
Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox is abandoning its attempt to take over Time Warner in a proposed deal that would have combined two of the world’s biggest media companies.
The about-face announced Tuesday comes three weeks after Time Warner Inc. revealed that it had rejected 21st Century Fox’s unsolicited $76 billion buyout offer.
Sprint, T-Mobile fall on news merger is off
LOS ANGELES – Sprint Corp. shares fell more than 15 percent while T-Mobile US Inc. shares were off almost 9 percent in extended trading Tuesday after the Wall Street Journal said Sprint had concluded it would be too difficult to convince regulators to approve the merger of the No. 3 and No. 4 carriers in the country.
The newspaper cited people familiar with the matter it did not name and said Sprint planned to make an announcement about its plans early today.
Launch of iPhone 6 scheduled for Sept. 9
There’s finally a date for the iPhone 6 announcement: Sept. 9.
According to influential tech blog Re/Code, Apple will formally unveil its latest smartphone next month.
The device is expected to feature a 4.7-inch screen, larger than any iPhone before it.
Apple declined to comment.
