In brief: Fun, food, penny carnival set for Eastside Reunion

LIBERTY PARK – The Spokane Eastside Reunion is on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Liberty Park, 1704 E. Fourth Ave.

The festival features food vendors, craft booths, a penny carnival and music all day.

Registration begins for Valley Youth Soccer

SPOKANE VALLEY – Valley Youth Soccer is accepting registration for its fall 2014 season.

Kids ages 4 to 16 are eligible to play. Everyone plays a minimum of half a game.

Coaches are needed; no experience is necessary and coaching clinics are provided. Coaches are parent volunteers and receive a half-price discount on their child’s registration fee.

The cost to join is $44 plus a $14 jersey fee. League play begins Sept. 13.

Scholarship help available for Spokane Junior Soccer

SPOKANE – Spokane Junior Soccer is offering half-price scholarships to anyone needing financial assistance in joining the fall 2014 season.

The league is also accepting registration for the upcoming fall season for ages 4 to 16. Notification and practices begin by the end of August.

Berries featured ingredient at Manito cooking class

MANITO PARK – The Friends of Manito will present Savoring the Berries – The Unexpected on Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. in the Manito Meeting Room, 4 W. 21st Ave.

Chef Robert Amodei from Sicily in Spokane will present cooking demonstrations which include berries that take center stage.

Japanese drumming group to play at county libraries

SPOKANE COUNTY – Spokane Taiko, a nonprofit Japanese drumming group, is touring Spokane County Libraries this week.

The group will be at the Fairfield branch, 305 E. Main St., Fairfield, today at 10 a.m. and the Otis Orchards branch, 22324 E. Wellesley, today at 2 p.m.

On Friday, the group will be at the Moran Prairie branch, 6004 S. Regal, at 10 a.m. and the Cheney branch, 610 First St., Cheney, at 2 p.m.

The performances are part of the summer reading program and kids will get a chance to play the drums.
