In brief: Wakeboard, Wake Surf and Slalom Series Championships this weekend
Water sports participants from novice to professional are coming from all over Washington and Idaho to compete this weekend at the Long Lake Wakeboard, Wake Surf and Slalom Series Championships.
Registration is still open and participants of all ages and abilities can enter. Events will be based from the Lake Spokane Campground, 7453 State Route 291 near Tum Tum.
INT events are a forum for skiers, wake boarders and wake surfers to try out competition and improve skills, learn new tricks and meet others in the sport. Riders can show off the tricks and style they have been working on in their free ride sessions.
This event is the final stop on the INT League Pacific Northwest tour.

On-site registration opens at 4 p.m. tomorrow. Optional practice rounds ($10 for 4 passes) will start at 5 p.m. Participants can also register at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Spectators are welcome.
Slalom skiing begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and wakeboarding follows at 1 p.m. The final round of slalom is at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday with wake surfing to follow at 1 p.m.
River Classic coming up
The Spokane River Classic, a paddling event for canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and other muscle-powered craft, is set for Aug. 23, but Tuesday is the pre-registration deadline for participants who want a classic t-shirt. The event, sponsored by the Spokane Canoe & Kayak Club, includes a 1.3-mile citizens course and a 5.4-mile endurance course, both of which include a short section of navigating buoys. The courses are located in the area of the Don Kardong Bridge near Gonzaga University downstream to the Division Street Bridge. Register online: sckc.ws/src.
Anglers help map Lake Spokane
Members of the Spokane Bass Club are teaming with Navionics on Saturday to create an up-to-date topographical chart of Lake Spokane. Anglers who have boats outfitted with fish-finder units can join the effort. The group will meet at the Nine Mile Recreation Area launch (Discover Pass required) at 8 a.m. and work until noon. The process involves idling and surveying the lake using GPS/fish finders and then uploading to Navionics who will update their SonarCharts maps and make them available to boaters and anglers electronically. Trail maintenance scheduled
Members of Spokane Nordic have scheduled another trail maintenance session for Saturday to help prepare the Mount Spokane cross-country trail system for the grooming season. Work will include clearing trails, moving firewood and possibly preparing the Nova Hut for painting. Meet at the Selkirk Lodge at 9 a.m. Bring work gloves, lunch and water.
