Liberty Lake Blotter: Officers respond to thefts, strange phone call

Calls from July 28-Aug. 4 included:

July 28: A resident in the 25000 block of East Hawkstone Loop reported the trailer he parked at the side of the road the night before was gone.

Officers responded to an alarm in the 23000 block of East Maxwell Drive to find a neighbor who was checking on animals.

A resident reported seeing a man driving a U-Haul in the parking lot in the 23000 block of East Appleway Avenue and trying to contact an employee. The employee believed the man was the same subject who threatened to burn down his home. The man had left the scene before police arrived.

July 30: Police reported seeing a man in the 18000 block of East Boone pick up a backpack full of items near a garage of a residence with a “For Rent” sign in the front yard. When police approached him, the backpack spilled open revealing tools and other items. The bicycle the man was riding had been reported stolen earlier this year and is estimated to be worth $600. The man was arrested and owner of the bicycle claimed it later that evening.

July 31: Police were called to the Liberty Lake boat launch at 1:04 a.m. The officers observed a group of underage boys there with alcohol. They determined no alcohol had been consumed and the boys were preparing to jump in the lake. Officers told the boys to go home – police said the boys were courteous, cleaned up the entire parking lot and went home.

Aug. 1: Police responded to a home in the 23000 block of East Appleway Avenue, where a resident reported a man called his home requesting information about a package for the resident’s girlfriend. The caller described the resident going so far as to know personal medical information and then began to make sexual innuendos to the resident who hung up and called 911.

Aug. 3: A man was arrested in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road on a theft charge after leaving a store with approximately $377 in alcohol and other goods.

Police responded to the 1400 block of North Caufield Court for a citizen dispute. The officer discovered it was a landlord/tenant dispute and they are involved in civil litigation. Both were advised to stay away from each other.

Arrests: Officers arrested three people for driving with a suspended license and one for driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence. They made one arrest for criminal trespass and possession of stolen property and one arrest for third-degree theft.
