He graduated from Mead High School, where he broke records playing basketball.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he went to work for Western Electric, where he stayed until his retirement.
Darrell married his high school sweetheart, Allene Baker, in 1954, and they were happily married for over 60 years.
Along with Allene, Darrell is survived by his daughter, Tammi Bouchard of Colbert; son, Robert Congleton (Georgia) of Seattle; and grandson, Joseph Bouchard of Kent; and sister, Marian Olson of Spokane.

Graveside services to be held Monday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Peone Cemetery.
