Around the Remote: Shark Week surges forth

Chuck Barney Mcclatchy Tribune

Don’t miss

Shark Week – Sharknados, thankfully, come and go. But summer is not complete without this long-running celebration of our favorite toothy, ocean-dwelling predators. The event turns 27 this year and kicks off with “Air Jaws: Fin of Fury.” It’s a special that deploys new super cameras and high-tech gizmos as a team searches for the missing “megashark” named Colossus. 8 p.m. Sunday, Discovery Channel.

Other bets

SUNDAY: “Fat Guys in the Woods” is a new reality series that delivers on its title: Bulgy dudes are pried off the couch and plopped into the wild, where they learn to build shelter, start fire and hunt with their bare hands. Cannibalism, we suspect, is prohibited. 7 p.m., Weather Channel.

MONDAY: It’s Channing Tatum’s turn to rough it on “Running Wild With Bear Grylls,” as he and Bear spend two days at Yosemite National Park. We assume they don’t have reservations at the Ahwahnee Hotel. 8 p.m., NBC.

TUESDAY: “The War Comes Home” is a moving special that follows two young veterans as they enter a new program to deal with the anguish of post-traumatic stress disorder and other hardships. Soledad O’Brien reports. 6 and 9 p.m., CNN.

WEDNESDAY: Sean Bean is one tough dude. After getting his head lopped off in “Game of Thrones,” he bounces right back to lead the drama series “Legends.” Bean plays an FBI agent who goes so deep undercover that he loses a grip on his own identity. 9 p.m., TNT.

THURSDAY: On the season finale of “Gang Related,” Daniel (Jay Hernandez) uses his wedding to broker a deal between Javier and Lavar Quintel. 9 p.m., Fox.

FRIDAY: The true-crime series “Cold Justice” caps off its second season with the oldest case Kelly and Yolanda have taken: the 1975 death of a young Indiana woman whose body was found in a bathtub. 9 p.m., TNT.

SATURDAY: On the new reality series “Wingmen,” we meet two pals who take an offbeat approach to their small-town food truck business. Will they self-destruct, or fly to the top of the food chain? 10 p.m., OWN.
