Oden charged with felony battery

NBA: Prosecutors in Indiana formally charged former NBA No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden with battery for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face during a fight.

The free-agent center was charged Monday with felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, misdemeanor domestic battery and misdemeanor battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

The 26-year-old was arrested at his mother’s suburban home in Lawrence, Indiana, on Thursday and released later that day from jail. An affidavit says a witness told police Oden had punched the woman in the face, drawing blood.

The Portland Trail Blazers made Oden the top pick in the 2007 draft. He played for the Miami Heat last season.

November trial set for Solo

Soccer: A November trial has been set for U.S. women’s goalkeeper Hope Solo, who is accused of assaulting her sister and 17-year-old nephew in June.

Solo, who also plays with the Seattle Reign of the National Women’s Soccer League, appeared in court in Kirkland, Washington.

In June, she pleaded not guilty to two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence.

A Nov. 4 trial means Solo won’t miss time with the Reign or October’s CONCACAF qualifying tournament for the 2015 World Cup in Canada.
