Obituary: Kiilsgaard, Lois (Johnson)

Age 89

KIILSGAARD, Lois (Johnson) Died peacefully on August 9th surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lois was born December 20, 1924 to Ethel and Harry Johnson in Spokane.

She graduated from North Central High School in 1943 and married Jack (Bob) Kiilsgaard in 1944.

They had four children: Christine, Kay, Kathy and Marty.

Lois and Jack raised their family in Spokane until 1958 when they moved to the Island of Kwajalein, and later to the Philippines and Charleston, SC.

Jack had a career as a fire chief in the naval fire protection service and Lois was a homemaker.

After retirement they returned to Spokane.

Lois had a lifelong, loving bond with her sister Carol Moe.

The sisters truly enjoyed and cared for one another.

Lois was known for her authentic curiosity.

She had a gift for developing and fostering friendship and is loved by many.

She enjoyed cooking, reading, playing pinochle and following national and local politics.

Lois never stopped learning - in fact she took piano lessons until just a few years ago.

She never forgot a birthday and was always on time.

Lois’ spirit will be carried forward by her sister, four children, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Lois appreciated many years of care and support from her physician, Rita Snow.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 10:00am at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Road, Spokane Valley.
