Mailer wastes taxpayer money

I am shocked that there hasn’t been more of an outcry about Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ recent mailing. Our tax dollars paid for that, in its entirety! It’s large, glossy and expensive-looking, plus postage. Some decry the raising of taxes, saying we wouldn’t need to raise taxes if leaders spent wisely. For those that don’t want to raise taxes to improve schools, infrastructure and to care for those in need, how can you justify the actions of our congresswoman? She has received a huge amount of campaign donations; why is she spending your money?

Her campaign will say this was not campaign material. It may not be illegal to mail, but it is not a good use of your tax dollars. It isn’t right. Many will say: “All politicians do this.” What did your mother say when you wanted to do something that everyone else was doing, but it wasn’t right? What do you tell your children in those instances?
