CURLEE, John L. “Jack” LCDR, USN (Retired) (Age 84) Born in New Orleans, LA to Jewel Bradshaw Curlee and John H. Curlee on January 2, 1930, passed away at age 84 on August 14, 2014 in Post Falls, ID. Jack enlisted in the United States Navy on his 17th birthday and served ten years in Aviation before his commission in 1957. He commanded the USS Chickasaw ATF-83 in 1964 as Lieutenant. He assumed command of the USS Snohomish County LST-1126 in 1965 for amphibious combat operations in South Vietnam, and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. In 1969 Jack married Lieutenant Commander Grace Miller Curlee, US Navy Nurse Corps, the same year he retired from the Navy. In 1974 they moved to Hayden Lake, ID, built a home, and later moved to Coeur d’Alene and more recently to Post Falls, ID. Jack was preceded in death by a grand-daughter and a great-grand-daughter. Survivors include his wife, Grace of Post Falls, ID; and from his previous marriage to Mary, three daughters and a son, Helen Van Boxtel (Ron) of Encinitas, CA, Kathryn Rosia (Neal) of Post Falls, ID, Susan Adcox (Bob) of Rathdrum, ID, and John L. Curlee Jr. (Mary) of Post Falls, ID; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.
