Bayern favorite for Travers Stakes

The 145th running of the $1.25 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course is set for today, with the speedy Bayern a 2-to-1 favorite. Bayern is trained by Bob Baffert and was impressive in winning the $1 million Haskell Invitational in his most recent start. But the 3-year-old colt will face strong competition in the 11/4-mile Mid-Summer Derby. Bayern ran into early traffic trouble in the Preakness, never getting into the race and finishing ninth. Bayern and jockey Martin Garcia will break from post two in a 10-horse field that includes fellow Grade 1 winners Tonalist, Wicked Strong and Mr Speaker. – Associated Press
