In Brief: Spokane Valley city pools prepare for end of season

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley city pools are getting ready to close for the season.

Park Road Pool closed Aug. 17 and today is the last day to swim at Valley Mission Pool, 11405 E. Mission Ave.

Terrace View Pool, 13500 E. 24th Ave., will remain open until Labor Day, Sept. 1.

Fees are $1 per person and children younger than 5 are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Dogs will get to swim at Valley Mission Pool Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday, dogs 59 pounds and lighter will swim from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Dogs 60 pounds and heavier can swim from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. On Monday, dogs 59 pounds and lighter will swim from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. and dogs 60 pounds and heavier will swim from 6 to 7:15 p.m. The cost is $5 per dog, per day and limit two dogs per owner. They must be at least 6 months old and only dogs will be allowed in the pool. Current vaccination records must be provided at the door. Space is limited, registration is recommended.

FBLA fundraises for March of Dimes

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Central Valley High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America raised $937 for March of Dimes by collecting change from students and teachers before summer vacation.

Top donors enjoyed a class pizza party or Krispy Kreme doughnuts delivery.

The CV FBLA class officers are Coleman Entringer, president; Henry Jiao, vice president; Silvan Squires, secretary; Caleb Johnson, treasurer; Amanda Lance, public relations; and Collin Dunn, parliamentarian.

The adviser is Duane Barnhart.

Summer lunch program to end

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Community of Christ, 11515 E. Broadway Ave., will end its free summer lunch program Thursday.

The program was started four years ago to fill the gap during the summer months when children are not receiving lunches in school.

From July 29 through Thursday, the church served 514 meals to children and 687 meals to adults. While the focus is on feeding children, everyone is welcome.

Meals are served noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays.
