Liberty Lake store worker hit with bottle during liquor theft

Liquor thefts are still happening regularly in Liberty Lake, and in some cases the violence is increasing.

An employee of the Safeway store in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road stopped a woman attempting to steal a $7.99 bottle of alcohol at 10:30 p.m. on Monday. The two were approached by a man who hit the employee over the head with a bottle, said Liberty Lake Police Chief Brian Asmus.

The man reportedly said, “You’re lucky I don’t have a gun,” before and he and the woman fled. The incident was captured on video surveillance and is under investigation, Asmus said.

A woman reportedly stole two bottles of alcohol from the same store shortly before noon on Aug. 13. A female juvenile was caught trying to steal nearly $40 worth of alcohol on Aug. 14. The teen reportedly told police that she had stolen alcohol from the store several times before, Asmus said. She was cited for third-degree theft.
