Railroad story jumps track

“Tracking Trouble: Current rail crossings mean delays, safety threats” (Aug. 17), regarding the railroads in the Spokane area, is very misleading, with very little research done.

Park Road is within the yard limits of the Parkwater at Yardley yards. No trains enter the yard at 79 miles per hour, as Daniel Moore stated. The yard limit is no more than 30 mph, and in most cases less as set by federal rules.

The Barker Road crossing has only a single track, not three tracks as Moore stated. And the new bridge on Havana Street crosses over the BNSF railroad, not the Union Pacific. That is located far to the south near Sprague Avenue.

This is fact-less reporting that does no company or people good. These are simple facts that could have been eliminated if Moore would have taken the time to take a one-half hour drive instead of talking to friends.

This is very poor reporting indeed. I had always thought that The Spokesman-Review had much higher standards than this.
