“The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards”: Welcome to television’s game of thrones – minus the gruesome carnage. Late-night funny guy Seth Meyers is our host for the annual gala that celebrates the medium’s artistic achievements while conveniently overlooking the awful fare like “Naked Dating.” He promises a “fun and upbeat” evening, but the losers might not necessarily agree. 5 p.m. Monday, NBC.

SUNDAY: Will it be a fang-tastic finish for “True Blood”? After seven seasons of sex, gore and stranger than strange shenanigans, we bid farewell to Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and the beleaguered residents of Bon Temps. 9 p.m., HBO.
SUNDAY: The “MTV Music Video Awards” are typically must-see TV and this year should be no different. Among the highlights: Beyonce is scheduled to perform and receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. 9 p.m., MTV.
MONDAY: There’s only one thing that might divert our attention from the Emmy show: Ice cream! On tonight’s “King of Cones,” the chefs chill out with flavorful creations inspired by rock ’n’ roll and the rodeo. 7 p.m., Food Network.
TUESDAY: On the season finale of “Tyrant,” Barry (Adam Rayner) receives some bad news. Of course, he should be used to that by now. 10 p.m., FX.
TUESDAY: The laughter is about to die on “Chelsea Lately” as Handler moves on after seven uproarious seasons. The finale’s guest list includes Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock and 50 Cent. 11 p.m., E!
WEDNESDAY: Figure skater Tara Lipinski knows something about graceful moves, so no wonder she’s a guest judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Don’t anticipate any triple axels from our Top 4, though. 8 p.m., Fox.
WEDNESDAY: We totally expect Mike Tyson to bring the pain during his guest appearance on “Franklin & Bash.” In a major stretch, the former boxing champ plays himself, tattoo face and all. 10 p.m., TNT.
THURSDAY: Chris Parnell hosts “World’s Wildest Commercials,” a collection of outrageous advertisements. Resist the urge to fast-forward through the entire program. 10 p.m., ABC.
THURSDAY: So you think television doesn’t provide a valuable public service? Think again. On tonight’s “Snack-Off,” amateur cooks work to create the ultimate hangover cure. 10:30 p.m., MTV.
FRIDAY: “American Masters – Dorothea Lange: Grab a Hunk of Lightning” is a profile of the acclaimed Bay Area photojournalist. Directed by her granddaughter Dyanna Taylor, the film incorporates family memories with never-before-seen film and photos. 8 p.m., KCDT; 9 p.m., KSPS.
SATURDAY: “Raiders of the Lost Art” is a new series that explores the mysterious stories behind the disappearance of some of the world’s most valuable artworks from museums, galleries and private homes. 4 p.m., Ovation.
