Spokane City Council to choose Salvatori’s replacement Monday

The Spokane City Council on Monday will choose a new member to fill the remainder of Steve Salvatori’s term.

The new council member, who will represent northwest Spokane, will be chosen from one of five finalists. They were winnowed down from a list of nearly two dozen applicants.

Those top five applicants are:

• Adrian Dominguez, an epidemiologist with the Spokane Regional Health District who recently was appointed to the city’s new independent police ombudsman commission.

• Julie Griffith, a personal finance educator at Money Management International.

• Eric “EJ” Iannelli, chairman of the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council.

• Melanie “Kitty” Klitzke, the Eastern Washington program director for Futurewise, a growth management advocacy group.

• Karen Stratton, a clerk in the city clerk’s office who first came to City Hall as a senior adviser to Mayor Jim West.

Four of the five agreed to complete a 14-question survey from The Spokesman-Review. Their answers are posted to the Spokesman-Review’s Spin Control blog.

Iannelli declined to participate in the survey, saying the public would discover his positions on issues “in due course should the City Council appoint me.”

Salvatori resigned earlier this summer. His term expires at the end of 2015.
