1. C. The Spokane City Council is working on an ordinance that would protect domestic violence victims from discrimination in housing and employment.

2. C. Hot dry weather has left roadbeds dry, which makes grading ineffective for filling holes. In addition, sparks from grader blades hitting rocks create a fire risk in dry conditions.

3. C. Irene Gonzales trained for a year and a half before running a marathon on her 50th birthday.

4. E. Washington’s wheat crop faced an array of trouble beginning with crusted soil that prevented some wheat from breaking through and then a lack of snowfall to protect the wheat from cold, followed by sporadic rain and extreme heat.

5. D. University of Idaho researchers are monitoring Fernan Lake to determine where nutrients that cause repeated outbreaks of toxic blue-green algae in the lake are coming from.
