Gonzaga defeated host Fresno State 3-0 in a nonconference women’s soccer match on Sunday to begin the season 2-0 for the first time since 2009.
Karley Baggerly scored two goals and the Zags picked up an own goal. Baggerly, who was the team’s co-leader in goals last season, scored at 12:19 off an assist from Katey Pennington and at 82:35 off an assist from Heather Johnson.
GU had a 14-5 shooting edge over FSU (1-1)
• Eastern Washington (1-1) got second-half goals from Cassie Black, Savannah Hoekstra and Paige Gallaway in dominating host Cal State Bakersfield 3-0 in nonconference play.
Black gave the Eagles the lead in the 49th minute and assisted on Hoekstra’s first collegiate goal at 60:42. Alisha Scott also assisted on Hoekstra’s goal and added a second assist on Gallaway’s goal at 77:50.
The Roadrunners (0-2) managed only one shot on goal. EWU had a 14-4 shooting edge.
Black’s goal was her second of the season, extending her school-record career total to 20. • Idaho lost its home opener, 2-0, to Texas Christian (1-1) in nonconference play. The Vandals (0-2) were outshot 19-5.
