McMorris Rodgers hypocritical

Regarding Kent Rinne (Aug. 13) who had asked Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers for her position on the appropriate punishment for a woman and/or those who assist her in her choice to have an abortion, but has received no response.

On Oct. 13, 2011, the House of Representatives passed HR 358, “The Protect Life Act.” According to Human Rights Watch spokesperson Meghan Rhoad, “the misnamed Protect Life Act is about allowing women to die if they need an emergency abortion. It is a vicious attack on women’s rights and on the most basic right to life.” (Human Rights Watch, “US: House Vote Puts Women at Risk, Bill Would Permit Hospitals to Let Women in Need of Care Die,” Oct. 13, 2011).

McMorris Rodgers does not believe “that abortion should only be used to save the life of the mother,” as she says she does, because Republicans do not believe in emergency abortion to save the life of the mother. All 248 Republicans voted for HR 358, including McMorris Rodgers.

McMorris Rodgers also voted to defund Planned Parenthood, and voted against mandatory insurance coverage for birth control (all forms). Please read HR 358. What Cathy says she believes in and the way Cathy votes are two different things.
