In brief: Fiesta Spokane kicks off with proclamation by mayor

SPOKANE – Fiesta Spokane, a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, kicks off with a proclamation and reception hosted by Mayor David Condon on Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Chase Gallery on the lower level of City Hall.

The Encanto Gala Dinner and Auction will be Sept. 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Tickets are $100 and payable to the EWU Foundation. Proceeds go to college scholarships at area universities.

On Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Fiesta Spokane Festival fills the Gondola Meadow in Riverfront Park with music, dancing, performers and Hispanic food vendors.

7-year-old will represent Washington in pageant

SPOKANE – Hailey Stroh, 7, has been crowned the National American Miss Washington State Queen and will be representing Washington at the national pageant in Disneyland in Anaheim, California, during Thanksgiving week.

The National American Miss Pageants award more than $1.5 million in cash, scholarships and prizes every year. The pageants focus on inner beauty, poise and self-confidence.

Hailey Stroh is the daughter of Jim and Theresia Stroh and she’s involved in cheerleading for Pop Warner Football as well as gathering donations for SCRAPS and for children at Isabella’s House.

Spokane Symphony will perform concerts in parks

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Spokane Symphony will be playing two free outdoor concerts over the holiday weekend.

Friends of Pavillion Park will present its annual Lud Cramer Memorial Concert featuring the symphony at 6 p.m. Saturday at the park, 727 N. Molter Road.

The symphony will also play at 6 p.m. Monday at Comstock Park, 600 W. 29th Ave. on Spokane’s South Hill.

Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early with chairs, blankets and picnic suppers.

The symphony and conductor Eckart Preu will perform a mix of classics, show tunes and patriotic songs.

Health event includes 3K walk for kids at park

LIBERTY LAKE – National Discover Your Optimal Health Day will be Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Rocky Hill Park, at the corner of Mission Avenue and Winrock Street.

The event will include a 3K walk for kids. Registration fees are a single-serving food item or a cash donation for the Food For Thought Backpack Program.

Items needed are Top Ramen, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, tuna, breakfast bars and protein bars.

Healthy beverages and appetizers will be provided for all walkers.
