NFL preseason: Giants complete perfect tune-up

Josh Brown kicked a 37-yard field goal with 38 seconds to play and the New York Giants (5-0) capped their first undefeated preseason since 2006 with a 16-13 victory over the New England Patriots (2-2) on Thursday night in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The win was a gift from Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who went for a first down on a fourth-and-1 from his 39 with less than three minutes to play and the score tied.

Panthers 10, Steelers 0: Fozzy Whittaker ran for a 2-yard touchdown, Graham Gano added a short field goal and Carolina (2-2) beat listless Pittsburgh (1-3) in Pittsburgh.

Redskins 24, Buccaneers 10: Colt McCoy threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns to lead Washington (3-1) to a victory over Tampa Bay (1-3) in Tampa, Florida.

Vikings 19, Titans 3: Teddy Bridgewater threw a touchdown in his first NFL start, Joe Banyard ran for 111 yards and Minnesota (4-0) wrapped up a perfect preseason by beating Tennessee (2-2) in Nashville, Tennessee.

Packers 34, Chiefs 14: Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien each threw for two touchdowns in their competition to back up starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and Green Bay (3-1) drubbed Kansas City (1-3) in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Dolphins 14, Rams 13: Matt Hazel caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Seth Lobato with 6:15 left, and Miami (3-1) rallied to beat St. Louis (1-3) in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Eagles 37, Jets 7: Matt Barkley threw for 253 yards and a TD and also ran for a score to lead Philadelphia (2-2) to a romp over New York (2-2) in Philadelphia.

Bengals 35, Colts 7: Rookie Jeremy Hill ran for 90 yards and had a team-leading six catches for 70 yards to spark Cincinnati (2-2) to a win over Indianapolis (0-4) in Cincinnati.

Lions 23, Bills 0: Third-string QB Kellen Moore threw two TD passes and Detroit (3-1) breezed past Buffalo (1-4) in Orchard Park, New York. Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins reinjured his ribs on Buffalo’s second drive and did not return.

Falcons 24, Jaguars 14: T.J. Yates made a strong case to be the backup QB, throwing for 243 yards and two TDs as Atlanta (2-2) defeated Jacksonville (1-3) in Jacksonville, Florida.

49ers 40, Texans 13: Rookie linebacker Chris Borland returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown, third-string quarterback Josh Johnson threw three TD passes and San Francisco (2-2) routed Houston (2-2) in Houston.

Broncos 27, Cowboys 3: Brock Osweiler led four scoring drives in the final tuneup for his third season as Peyton Manning’s backup, and Denver (3-1) crushed Dallas (0-4) in Arlington, Texas. The loss gave the Cowboys their fifth winless preseason in franchise history.

Ravens 22, Saints 13: Justin Tucker hit five field goals and the Baltimore (4-0) wrapped up a perfect preseason with a victory over New Orleans (3-1) in New Orleans.

Browns 33, Bears 13: Brian Hoyer drove the starting offense to a rare preseason TD before turning things over to rookie Johnny Manziel, who threw a TD pass and ran for 55 yards, as Cleveland (1-3) cruised past Chicago (2-2) in Cleveland.

Chargers 12, Cardinals 9: Nick Novak kicked four field goals and San Diego (2-2) beat Arizona (1-3) in San Diego, 11 days before the teams meet again in the season opener.
