Comedian Joan Rivers remains in serious condition

Joan Rivers’ “condition remains serious” after being rushed to a hospital Thursday following complications during an outpatient surgery, her daughter said Friday.

“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world,” Melissa Rivers told E! News in an exclusive statement. “Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible.”

The comedy legend and “Fashion Police” host has been placed in a medically induced coma, according to New York Daily News sources and other reports. She had stopped breathing during minor throat surgery Thursday morning and was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The 81-year-old is stable but still in critical condition, E! News said.

Clinton quits job as NBC News reporter

Chelsea Clinton said Friday she is quitting her job as a reporter at NBC News, citing increased work at the Clinton Foundation and the imminent birth of her first child.

Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s daughter had been working at the network since 2011, sporadically doing feature stories on people or organizations doing public-spirited work. Politico magazine reported earlier this year that NBC was paying her $600,000 a year.

Her exit removes some potential awkwardness for the network if her mother runs for president in 2016. NBC made certain to keep Clinton off the air around the time her mother was making media appearances to promote a book, to avoid any appearance of conflict.

Green enters plea in Ecstasy case

Singer Cee Lo Green avoided jail time Friday after pleading no contest to one felony count of furnishing Ecstasy to a woman while dining at a downtown Los Angeles restaurant, prosecutors said.

The 38-year-old former judge on NBC’s “The Voice,” whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Calloway, entered the plea on the day his preliminary hearing was scheduled to begin. Green was sentenced to three years’ formal probation and 360 hours of community service, and was ordered to complete 52 Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings. He’s due back in court in March for a progress report.

Green was accused of giving a 33-year-old woman Ecstasy, a drug also known as Molly, at the Wokcano restaurant in July 2012. A Los Angeles police investigation began shortly after the woman reported to authorities that Green put the drug in her drink as they dined together. The woman told investigators she woke up to find herself naked in a bed with the singer in her hotel room.

But after two rounds of investigations by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, prosecutors declined to file any sex-related charges against Green, citing a lack of evidence.
