McMorris Rodgers gets vote

Recent letters, including one from Linda McHenry (Aug. 21), have been critical of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ stance and voting record on key social and legislative issues.

In the first place, McMorris Rodgers has voted exactly the way she said she would during her campaign. That’s the reason she received overwhelming support in an otherwise conservative district. The notion that she doesn’t support women’s right to equal pay or to make their own health care decisions is ridiculous. We already have equal pay laws, so the Ledbetter Act is additional and unnecessary regulation.

Unemployment benefits should have an expiration date, and 99 weeks is a long time. Also, some birth control methods are abortifacients and many people object to being forced to paying for someone else’s birth control or termination. That is not the government’s role.

Once again, the Affordable Care Act is the worst piece of legislation ever written. It fundamentally changes the relationship between the government, its citizens and health care providers. That alone should be reason to vote against it, but the fact that it is unaffordable, costs jobs and cannot achieve its objectives, is why McMorris Rodgers opposes it.

Keep going Cathy; you’ve got my vote.
