NFL Notes: Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer expects to keep starting job over rookie Johnny Manziel

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer says his confidence has not been shaken and believes he should keep his starting job over rookie Johnny Manziel.

Hoyer was replaced by Manziel in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 26-10 loss to Buffalo after throwing two interceptions. Manziel scored on a 10-yard run on his first drive.

Following the game, Cleveland coach Mike Pettine left open the possibility that he would start Manziel this week against the Colts.

Hoyer, who has played poorly in three straight games, said Monday that he’s “going about it as I’m the starter. For me, nothing has changed.”

Hoyer pointed out that he’s led the Browns to seven wins and the club is in the thick of the AFC playoff race. “You don’t get to 7-5 in the NFL by lucking into it,” he said.

Manziel led the Browns on a touchdown drive in his most significant playing time this season.
