Freezing rain causing numerous accidents

Freezing rain has made travel treacherous this evening, with numerous slide-offs, crashes and rollovers reported. Washington State Patrol troopers have responded to about 25 crashes tonight in Spokane County between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., said Trooper Randy Elkins. Elkins said crashes are spread throughout the area, but that the West Plains has been hit particularly hard. Several have been reported on Interstate 90 in western Spokane County. Elkins said he is not aware of any serious injuries in the crashes this evening. In one incident, a trailer with hazardous material tipped over along I-90, Elkins said. The material was contained safely in the truck.
