In brief: School collects gift cards for homeless students

SPOKANE VALLEY – Evergreen Middle School, 14221 E. 16th Ave., is hosting a giving tree for the Homeless Education and Resource Team, or HEART.

The school is collecting gift cards for the 37 unaccompanied teens in the district’s high schools.

These teens may be homeless, living with friends or living on their own.

Donors may give $30 for clothing at Target, Fred Meyer or Walmart; $20 for fast food at Jack in the Box, Jimmy John’s or any other fast food restaurant; or $10 for coffee at The Wake Up Call or Starbucks.

Gift cards are due on Dec. 16.

Nursing school hosts drive to fund graduation event

SPOKANE – The Spokane Community College Nursing class of 2015 is hosting a clothing and textile drive to raise money for its graduation celebration.

The class is accepting clothing, shoes, towels, blankets, purses, belts or stuffed animals, among other items, through Friday. Donated items can be in any condition. The class will be paid, per pound, by Clothes for the Cause.

Bing Crosby Film Festival features classic movies

SPOKANE – The ninth annual Bing Crosby Holiday Film Festival is Saturday at the Bing Crosby Theater.

The festival includes showings of “White Christmas” at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., “Anything Goes” at 2 p.m., and “Holiday Inn” at 4:30 p.m. Howard Crosby will perform some of his uncle’s songs at 7 p.m.

Crosby photos will be on display during the festival, which is sponsored by the nonprofit Advocates for the Bing Crosby Theater.

Tickets are $8, available at the door. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free.
