Obituary: Galbreath, Alma Celia (Scott)

Age 100

GALBREATH, Alma Celia (Scott) Was born July 29, 1914, to Daniel and Alma Scott at Ritzville, WA.

Following a short illness, she passed from this life Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Ritzville Hospital.

Alma was the fifth of six children and enjoyed the camaraderie of a large family and the joys of rural life.

Through her father’s political life, the family had many opportunities to be involved as Washington State was coming into it’s own.

She grew up learning the value of chores, skills of horsemanship and proper etiquette.

Graduating from Ritzville High School in 1931, she worked, then attended WSC and returned home to use her secretarial skills.

Alma experienced incredible changes in American life over these past 100 years.

She started married life in 1938 to Maynard Galbreath.

After a couple years living at White Bluffs, the couple moved home to farm.

Three sons completed their family.

Music filled her life and she was blessed with a lovely alto voice and considerable ability at the piano.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, contributing her time and talents as needed.

For 76 years she has been a member of Chapter AR, PEO.

She served on the Board of Directors of Big Bend Community College as well as the BBCC Foundation Board.

Over the years, she has been actively engaged in civic life, serving in varied capacities throughout the community and region.

She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, her first husband Maynard Galbreath; her second husband, Earl H. Luiten; son Mark; granddaughter Karen Galbreath; and many close and beloved friends.

She is survived by her sons Gary (Ronna), Dale (Julie), daughter-in-law Amy Galbreath, grandchildren Greg, Amy Van Leirop, Cletus, Grant, Wade, Daniel, John, Molly McFaddin, Mindy Worthington, Scott and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 12 Noon to 6:00 PM at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville.

A service is planned for Friday, December 12, 2014, at 11:00 am at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 S. Division, Ritzville.

Private interment will be at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
