Weather: Mild weather expected to turn cooler over weekend

Staff Reports

This week’s wet, mild weather should stick around for another day or so, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures this week have been well above normal ranges, keeping snow levels high – from the 6,500-foot to 8,500-foot range.

A storm system from the coast is expected to bring more rain to the Inland Northwest today, along with gusty winds.

Temperatures in Spokane should stay relatively warm today and Friday, with daytime highs in the mid-40s with overnight lows above freezing.

Starting Friday into Saturday, conditions should turn cooler and drier.

High temperatures should fall to 37 or 38 degrees over the weekend, with a low of 26 degrees overnight Saturday.

Expect clouds and fog this weekend, the weather service says.

With more rain expected for North Central Washington today – perhaps as much as an inch in the Cascades – the weather service issued a flood watch Wednesday. Areas burned by wildfire last summer on the east slopes of the North Cascades, the Wenatchee area and the Okanogan Valley are especially vulnerable, the weather service said. The flood watch was in effect through late tonight.

Looking ahead to next week, Tuesday and Wednesday “may bring our next chance for light snow,” the weather service said in its extended forecast.
