Obituary: Wald, Ethel M.

Age 93

WALD, Ethel M. (Age 93) Our loving mother Ethel Wald was born on April 17, 1921 in Flasher, North Dakota and passed away on December 4, 2014 in Spokane, WA.

She is survived by her daughter Dianne (Michael) Klein in Spokane, WA; brothers James (Helen) Germain, Conrad Germain, Robert (Florine) Germain; sisters Betty Schauer, Dorothy (Lawrence) Chicos, Helen Grenz, JoAnn (Virgil) Kinzler, Dolores (Richard) Fischer, Patricia (William) Stein, Yvonne (Brian) Healy; grandchildren Mary (Rich) Fassio, Chantelle (Michael) Phillips, Michelle Klein, Kevin Garceau, Roger Crewse; great-grandchildren Christopher Coles, Sarah and Grace Fassio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ethel is preceded in death by her parents Willard and Wilma Germain; former husband Joseph Wald; daughter Darlene Haugen; brothers Willard Jr. Germain, William Germain; and sisters Francis Germain, Charlotte Carter, Eunice Schmaltz and Jeanette Germain.

Ethel graduated from Hazelton High School in Hazelton, North Dakota in 1939.

Years later, she graduated from Kelsey Baird Business School in Spokane, WA.

She was a secretary for several businesses and then a salesclerk for The Bon Marche/Macy’s in Spokane, WA.

She also volunteered for many organizations including Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Fatima Church and Immaculate Heart Retreat House.

Ethel enjoyed gardening, walking, reading and drawing/painting.

Family and friends were always warmly welcomed in her home.

The family would like to thank Candlelight Home for their excellent care of Ethel.

Services will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart Retreat House (Queen of Peace Cemetery and Funeral Center) - 6910 South Ben Burr Road, Spokane, WA 99223.

The Vigil will be Friday, December 19, 2014 at 7:00pm.

The Funeral Mass, Committal and Luncheon will be Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00am.
