Redmon guides EWU rally

Sophomore Jade Redmon recorded her third career double-double Wednesday and the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team used a 28-10 second-half run to defeat Portland 72-65 at Reese Court in Cheney.

Redmon (Mead High) scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds. Earlier this season she became the first Eagles player – men or women – to record a triple-double.

Lexie Nelson and Hayley Hodgins each added 16 points for the Eagles (5-4), who finished with a season-high 10 blocked shots.

“I thought we were getting a lot of good shots in the first half, and we just weren’t knocking them down,” Eagles head coach Wendy Schuller said. “As a coaching staff, we talked about how to approach it and, as an old shooter, I know the adage that the only way to get back on is to keep shooting.

“Jade got to the rim at the beginning of the second half and that kind of opened things up for us. Hayley hit a couple of 3s and we kind of fed off of that.”
