CCS, NIC advance in tournaments

Khadija Neumeyer scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as CC Spokane beat Kwantlan Polytechnic 87-44 on Sunday in the first round of the Skagit Valley College tournament in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Jaida Burgess added 11 points for the Sasquatch (9-4), who will play Bellevue, a 67-42 winner over Grays Harbor, in the semifinals today at 4 p.m.

The Sasquatch led 37-22 at halftime before breaking the game open with a 50-point second half.

The Sasquatch shot less than 4 percent better than Kwantlan but took 29 more shots thanks to a 39-28 rebounding advantage and 27 turnovers by the Eagles of Surrey, British Columbia.

Samantha McPhail scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds for Kwantlan.

• North Idaho College (9-4) took a 67-49 victory over the Whatcom Orcas (5-7) in the first round of the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic being played in Longview, Washington.

The Cardinals play Centralia, a 79-55 victor over Blue Mountain, in the tournament semifinals today at 4 p.m.
